A very fine example of the work of French artist Paul Sieffert. The painting has a good provenance having been sold by Christie's in 2014 where it was purchased by the previous private collector for £3,750 - please see the photograph section for the Christie's auction result. With various Christie's labels verso. Signed lower left.
Condition
In very fine condition. The canvas not lined, torn, patched or repaired. There have been a couple of small areas of re-touching to the background since the Christie's sale. Clean, most attractive, well framed and ready to hang.
Artist Information
Paul Sieffert was born in Paris in 1874. He was primarily a painter of nudes, portraits and illustrations. He was a pupil of Gérôme, Gabriel Guay and Maignan and showed at the Paris Salon from 1894 onwards. He was awarded the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1902 and the Diploma of Honour at the 1937 Expo. He was a member of the League of French Artists and also sat on its vetting committee. He was made a Knight of the Légion d’honneur in 1931. He is also known for his stained glass, decorative compositions and exotic illustrations.
