A very fine oil painting on canvas depicting a Maenad nude reclining in a landscape holding a bunch of grapes by Francisque-Edouard Bertier. Signed and dated lower right center.
Condition
In very fine condition. Professionally lined and conserved in the late 20th century. Clean, most attractive, well framed and ready to hang. The frame with wear and minor imperfections.
Artist Information
Francisque Edouard Bertier was a French artist, born in Paris, and educated in the studios of Cabanel. After achieving success in Paris, he visited America, and opened a studio in New York, where he painted many portraits and genre subjects, and where his home was the centre of a refined social circle. he died upon his return to France.
