A very fine capriccio view of Venice with mist rising from the canal.  The painting is a superb example of the work of highly regarded 19th century British artist and specialist painter of Venetian capriccios James Salt.  Signed lower right.

Condition

In very fine condition.  Professionally lined and conserved in the late 20th century.  Clean, most attractive, well framed and ready to hang.

Artist Information

James Salt was an English artist.  He specialized in capriccio paintings, specifically capturing imagined views of Venice in oils but with a gentle colouring and atmospheric feel. He was quite prolific but not a lot known about him.
