Lot Notes

A superb example of the work of Alex De Andreis depicting a cavalier standing in an interior.  The painting has a good provenance having originally been with Hugo Arnot, Vienna with label verso.  More recently the painting was purchased by the previous private collector at Christie's Old Master & 19th Century Art sale at South Kensington in July 2011 - the catalogue for the sale can still be viewed online at the Christie's website.  Signed lower right.

Condition

In very fine condition.  The canvas not lined, torn, patched or repaired though with a small area of wax treatment.  Clean, most attractive, well framed and ready to hang.  The frame with wear and imperfections.

Artist Information

Alex De Andreis was a Belgian artist known for interior scenes of groups of soldiers and often of a single cavalier. He painted in strong colours and invariably in 17th or 18th century costume.
