Continental River Scene - Sold

attributed to Thomas Miles Richardson - Sold

Continental River Scene - Sold

An extremely fine mid 19th century oil painting on canvas depicting a river scene with boats and figures and castle ruins beyond which is almost certainly a rare example of the oil paintings of Thomas Miles Richardson Junior.  The composition of the present lot is comparable to a number of works produced by Richardson around 1850 - one particularly similar work is The Castle at Grafenburg on the Moselle, a small watercolour which was offered for sale by Bonhams, Bath on 16th December 2008, Lot 343.  It is possible that the present lot depicts a scene at the same location though a little further down the river.  A wonderful oil painting of the highest standard.

Price: Sold for £1,070 in a no reserve eBay sale on 20th November 2011
