The Sleeping Christ Child - Sold

A fine and rare early copy after Reni's original.  Inscribed on the edge of the crossbar of the cross is part of the phrase 'COR MEUM VIGILAT' (which comes from the Song of Solomon: "Ego dormio et cor meum vigilat" (I sleep but my heart is awake)).  A painting with a similar composition by Reni is in the Art Museum, Princeton.
