Noli me Tangere - Sold

17th Century Italian School - Sold

Noli me Tangere - Sold

An exceptionally fine 17th century Italian Baroque oil painting on panel depicting Christ appearing to Mary Magdalene after the resurrection.  The painting is clearly the work of a major 17th century Italian hand, showing the influence of artists such as Guido Reni and Carlo Dolci.  Noli me tangere, meaning "touch me not" or "don't tread on me", is the Latin version of words spoken, according to John 20:17, by Jesus to Mary Magdalene when she recognised him after his resurrection.  An exceptional original old master oil painting.

Price: Sold for £2,272.00 in a no reserve eBay sale on 1st February 2015
